Site InformationAffiliated as an "Accredited Arboretum" site since 2004
The OPPD Arboretum was constructed in 1992 with the intent of providing an outdoor education area where people can learn proper selection and planting of trees and shrubs near OPPD's overhead and underground utilities, observe various line clearance tree pruning methods and learn how to use plant materials for energy conservation purposes. The 26-acre site has about 1,000 plants, 201 types of shrubs and 208 different species of trees. The arboretum also features eight educational exhibits, an outdoor classroom, two acres of wildflowers, a lowland water feature and about two miles of trail. The arboretum is open year-round from dawn to dusk.
